Jason Nixon was elected to the Alberta Legislature on May 5th, 2015, as the MLA for Rimbey–Rocky Mountain House–Sundre. Jason’s dedication to doing what’s right, refusing to back down, and getting results has allowed him to become one of the top performing MLAs in Alberta’s Legislature. Jason served on the negotiation team that created a framework for unity between the Wildrose Party and the Progressive Conservative Party of Alberta. The agreement was ratified and approved by the members of both parties in July 2017, establishing the United Conservative Party. Jason Kenney said that the “Unity Agreement and the United Conservative movement in Alberta would not have happened without the leadership of Jason Nixon”. After the UCP’s first leadership race, Jason served as the Leader of the Official Opposition until its leader, Jason Kenney, won a seat in a by-election. Jason has held other notable positions in the Wildrose and UCP caucuses, including Official Opposition House Leader, Chief Opposition Whip, Shadow Minister for Human Services, Shadow Minister of Ethics and Accountability, and has served on a variety of Standing committees of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. Jason is the oldest son of Pat Nixon, the founder of one of Alberta’s most respected not-for-profit organizations, The Mustard Seed. Jason spent over 25 years volunteering and working within The Mustard Seed community, serving as an Executive Director with the organzation between 2006 and 2011.
